Sunrise Yoga in San Miguel de Allende

It's 6:50 in the morning and San Miguel's sky is just beginning to blush pink. You climb barefoot up the stone stairs to Amatté's highest terrace, where the organic cotton mats are already laid out on the polished concrete floor. The instructor — a yoga master who lives between Rishikesh and San Miguel — greets you in silence, with a cup of ginger tea in his hands.

The practice begins with breathing: the fresh sierra air fills your lungs as the first ray of sun touches the parish dome in the distance. Each pose is held longer than you expect — not to challenge you, but so you'll listen. At the end, lying in savasana, the sound of the cathedral bells mixes with birdsong.

You don't need to applaud. Your body already did.
